Dental care is vital to the overall health of any pet. Dental disease can lead to health issues with the heart, liver, and kidneys, and can affect the entire body through the bloodstream. In fact, 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats over three years of age suffer from some form of dental disease, making it the most common pet health issue among our pet population.
Despite these disturbing facts, many pet owners are not aware of the importance of dental care to their pets’ health. There are a lot of different ways to improve your pets’ dental hygiene, including home brushing, dental chews, and regular inspections.
The most effective way to protect your pet from dental disease is through professional cleanings. We perform cleanings here at California Dog & Cat Hospital, including the area beneath the gums that you can’t see or access at home.
For dental cleanings, we do require the use of anesthesia. We do recommend having blood work done either before or at the time of the procedure to check the organ functions.
Prices/Estimate:
For a dental cleaning with anesthesia, you may expect a range of $450-550. If there are extractions or multiple extractions the procedure may cost $450 and up. Sometimes it’s hard to know exactly how many if any teeth need to be extracted before the dental cleaning.
Post Dental Care:
It is important to brush the teeth, flush the teeth, or use dental chews to help keep the teeth clean. After the dental cleaning tartar will build up if no home care is provided such as brushing and/or dental chews.
If your pet has brown/yellow teeth, bad breath, or is having difficulty eating, these could all be signs of dental disease. Please call us at (209) 465-5726 today to learn more and schedule your pet’s dental cleaning.
